Frequently Asked Questions
Is the treatment for me?
The treatment is best for healthy people who are not excessively overweight or who are of reasonably average weight but who have specific localised areas of stubborn fat. (eg double chins, love handles, outer thighs, inner thighs, hips, bottoms, upper arms, backs inner knees and of course the tummy/abdomen etc … virtually anywhere) and who want some lipo sculpture without excessive down time.
People who do have health issues need not be excluded but special precautions may be required. This will need to be discussed during the initial consultation with your treating doctor.
How is the Laser Lipo procedure performed?
The procedure is performed under sterile conditions in a treatment room. The area to be treated is marked by the treating doctor. The area of fat to be removed is infiltrated with a solution of local anaesthetic. A very fine (1.5mm diameter) cannula which contains the laser fibre (“Osyfibre”) is inserted under the skin through a tiny incision and directly into the fat. The laser beam is then slowly and methodically guided through the area and directed onto the fat cells. The energy and heat from the laser destroys the fat cells with no damaging effect on the surrounding tissues. In addition to destroying fat cells the heat from the laser tightens the skin through collagen stimulation and new collagen production. Your body will absorb this liquefied fat and eventually quite naturally excrete it through the body’s natural metabolic process. Depending on the area treated, the procedure generally takes about an hour. Usually there is very little bleeding bruising or swelling and return to normal activity is possible shortly after the procedure.
How effective is Laser Lipo?
Laser Lipo is perfect for eliminating common and stubborn problem areas such as inner and outer thigh, tummy, jaw line \ jowls etc. The overall results depends on the amount of fat in the area to be treated, but improvements are usually seen within approximately 6 weeks of treatment and continue to gradually improve up to 4 months post treatment.
How many Laser Lipo treatments will I need?
Generally one treatment is required per area treated however this often depends on the size and volume of the area to be treated. Your treating doctor will advise on this during your initial consultation.
How many Laser Lipo areas can be treated?
Depending on the size and volume of the area to be treated, one or more areas can be treated in a single session of between 1 and 2 hours.
Are there any side effects with Laser Lipo?
Like any procedure, Laser Lipo also has its risks and side effects. These include bruising and/or discomfort in the short term, both which typically disappear more quickly than other forms of liposuction.
Does Laser Lipo hurt?
Pain thresholds vary from person to person. However, local anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated and the procedure is virtually painless.
What happens post-procedure?
Generally you will be kept at the treatment centre for an hour before returning home. You will be given verbal and written post procedure instructions. You will be provided with your medical requirements before leaving the clinic. Depending up on the area treated, you are usually required to wear a compression garment for a day or two and in some cases up to one week . There is almost no bruising, swelling or pain and very few patients require more than an occasional mild painkiller. Most patients can return to work and most normal activities the next day.
Is Laser Lipo a solution to obesity?
Like other forms of liposuction, Laserlipo is not a solution to obesity. It is designed to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat in specific areas of the body. Ideal candidates are those that are in relatively good health mentally and physically.
Laser Lipo is not a replacement for liposuction but can be complimentary. There is a limit as to how much can be done at any one time and if you need to remove reasonably large amounts of fat in one session then liposuction is still the preferred option.
Are the results permanent?
Laser Lipo is a very effective treatment, however, like any weight loss programme a sensible diet and lifestyle is necessary to maintain condition and efficacy.
Can Laser Lipo be repeated in the same area?
Yes, but patients must wait at least 4 months before doing so.
What are the advantages of Laser Lipo?

- Minimal recovery time;
- Previously difficult areas can now be treated ;
- Tightens loose skin through collagen stimulation and production;
- Several areas can be treated in the same visit with virtually invisible entry points ;
- May be conducted in a doctor’s rooms ;
- Can be performed as a genuine “walk in and walk out” procedure for most treated areas ;
- Requires only local anaesthetic; it does not require a full general anaesthetic ;
- Considerably lower risk of blood loss and minimal bruising;
- Fat may be removed naturally or aspirated;
How much does Laser Lipo cost?
Overall cost depends on the extent of the treatment. This will be discussed with your treating doctor at your initial consultation.
